At its heart, the song is about that leap of faith: the willingness to move forward without having all the answers. The Fool looks upward rather than downward, choosing trust over fear, possibility over hesitation. That imagery stayed with me as I wrote, this idea of stepping forward with an open heart, ready to be transformed by whatever comes next.
But even in this softness, I wanted to acknowledge the truth that The Fool is often seen as naïve. And in a way, he is. His innocence can make him vulnerable, his openness can lead him into challenges he doesn’t see coming. There’s a small thread of that awareness woven into the song: a quiet understanding that his journey won’t be without its difficulties, that lessons in grounding and discernment will unfold later. He may have to learn to balance faith with awareness, hope with caution. Those themes surface in future tracks. But here, at the beginning, I let The Fool remain who he is: unguarded, hopeful, and willing to begin.

In the Major Arcana, The Fool represents innocence and possibility, and when I wrote this song, I felt myself standing in that same open space. I didn’t know where I was heading, but I trusted the pull toward something new.
Sonically, “The Fool” reflects that sense of openness and gentle surrender. The intricate guitar lines drift with a kind of soft curiosity, and my vocals move instinctively, guided more by feeling than by structure. I aimed for an airy, grounded brightness to the track- like sunlight filtering through a window on a morning when everything feels possible. It aims to capture the moment before the journey takes shape, when all you can do is follow your intuition and trust that it will lead somewhere meaningful.
Still, I didn’t want that nuance to dim the light of this moment.
Because even with his naïvety, The Fool’s openness is his gift.
It’s the reason he can grow.
“The Fool” is my own moment of choosing trust.
It’s the doorway through which the rest of this project flows: the first step that makes every step after possible.
The moment the journey begins, and the soul quietly says yes.
